Many quotes from Thirukkural, Naladiyar and other Tamil literature were included.

304. The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that is the essence of inhumanity. (George Bernard Shaw).
Those who seek to preserve the irreproachable honor of their families will not viciously do what is detrimental thereto. (Thirukkurahl – 956).
சலம்பற்றிச் சால்பில செய்யார் மாசற்ற
குலம்பற்றி வாழ்துமென் பார் . (திருக்குறள் -956).
Salam-partri(ch) saalbila seyyaar maas(u)-artra
Kulam-partri vaazhdhum-yen baar. (Thirukkurahl – 956).
Even though people have different thoughts, they can be divided into some groups. The grouping as good and bad people is common in many countries. We consider a country good or not good, based on the majority of the people who live there. The same norm is prevalent in districts and villages. Even the streets are considered as good or bad ones. The reason for this is based on the character of the people.
The development of a country cannot be correlated with the above reason. But, the wise persons will not consider a country great if the people are not good, even though it may be a developed country. The character of the people is very important. It will be good to listen to the good principles from wise people, and act accordingly. Some people will not like to accept such advices; instead, they will hate the advisors. If such people understand this properly, they will change. If such a change occurs, it will be good. Some other people will always oppose wise persons. Such people will be there in all disciplines. We can see religious fanatics. We can see arrogant persons in labor unions. In some colleges, the ‘ragging’ is prevalent to affect the junior students.
Therefore, even though it is natural to notice difference of opinion, the way it is expressed must be correct. One should be gracious in explaining and accepting the good principles. One should not consider the other as a foe. A difference of opinion will occur even for small matters, which splits the family, friends and relatives. This should be resisted.

305. The more things a man is ashamed of, the more respectable he is. (George Bernard Shaw).
The world will (always) praise and adore the fame of the honorable who would rather die than suffer indignity. (Thirukkurahl – 970).
இளிவரின் வாழாத மானம் உடையார்
ஒளிதொழுது ஏத்தும் உலகு . (திருக்குறள் - 970).
Yihlivarin vaazhaadha maanam vudaiyaar
Ohlithozhidhu yae(th)thum vulagu. (Thirukkurahl – 970).
The birth as a human being is greater than all other births. We never realize this. During young childhood times, we don’t know anything. However, during the school days, we learn many things gradually. This knowledge, in general, will be related to the external things. This is certainly important. To add greatness to this, we have to develop the philosophical knowledge.
The philosophical principles will make us a good human being. This emphasizes that we should be free from avariciousness, telling lies, envying and getting angry. Though many people possess these good qualities, they are affected by the dangerous activities of some persons. Due to this situation, some people indulge in doing unlawful activities, and then repent. However, such persons who repent on their bad actions will strengthen their determination and live properly. It is wrong to insult elders and great people. Those who insult others should think about their own birth. It is a great thing to be born as a human being, without any physical or mental deficiencies. And live nicely. This is not realized. They should live with the thought of helping others, being good, and not to hurt others. If such people develop good qualities, the country will prosper.
Therefore, even if most people are good, the wrongful actions of some persons should be prevented; those persons also have to be changed as good persons. Let us endeavor.

2 books on morals

I have written 2 books on moral aspects.
1. "The Excel School" (2008)
2. "16 Prosperities for better living". (2009).
Both the books were published by Publishamerica. (USA).

Thiukkural and Quotations.

235. The health of the people is really the foundation upon which all their happiness and all their powers as a state depend. (Benjamin Disraeli).
Propriety of conduct is true greatness of birth; improper conduct will sink into a mean birth. (Thirukkurahl – 133).
ஒழுக்கம் உடைமை குடிமை - இழுக்கம்
இழிந்த பிறப்பாய் விடும் .
Vozhukkam vudaimai kudimai; yizhukkam
Yiahindha pirappaai vidum. (Thirukkurahl – 133).
Daily we meet people of different kinds. Some will be healthy and enthusiastic. Some will be sad due to their ill health. It will be difficult to be happy for those who do not have good health. This is human nature. If one member in a family suffers from illness, the whole family will lose happiness and be in sad state. Nobody will enjoy even if the house is full of recreational facilities. Existence of only such an attitude is family. While one is suffering, it is not proper for others to lead a joyous life. That is not a good family.
Likewise, if many people are leading a miserable life, that country cannot be considered as a good one. The reason for the misery should be found out and rectified. The civic factors should be good to prevent diseases to the body. One should prevent the pollution of the environment. There should be job opportunities for everyone, according to their capacity. If people utilize their time in doing jobs, their health will also be healthy. When there is no work, one may spend the time in improper ways. By this, they will create troubles to others. Due to such bad activities, their health is also spoiled. When these activities increase, the nation’s peace is also affected. It leads to a dreaded life for everyone. The tourism and business related visits from other countries decline. Instead of being a great country, it becomes a despicable one.

Therefore, if a country is to be a good one, the people of that must be good. Good food will ensure good health. Good thoughts will ensure good society. Hence, let us think of leading a good life by reading good books and listening to wise persons.

234. The secret of success is constancy to purpose. (Benjamin Disraeli).
Yield not to the feebleness which says, “This is too difficult to be done.” Labor will give the greatness (of mind) which is necessary (to do it). (Thirukkurahl – 611).
Arumai vudaith(U)-yendru asaavaamai vaehndum;
Perumai muyarchi tharum. (Thirukkurahl – 611).
Various types of people live in the world. However, some persons lead a prestigious life. One must observe about who gets such a good life. We have to consider only those who get a consistently good life. To acquire a good name independently, one approach is by running an industry. Another way is to get a good job by excelling in education. Full involvement in a good job with perfection in that is another approach. We come across people, in various disciplines, who have earned their good name.
People will recognize a very tall person in a crowd with awe. In the same manner, if a person stands high in life all the people will notice him. If a person like a doctor, a scientist, or a sportsperson wants to excel in the respective field, it is feasible only if he works for long hours. A school girl, who got many prizes in swimming competitions, told that she used to do swimming practice daily for 4-5 hours. Those who get the first place in examinations tell the same thing. Great innovations are made by the scientists due to their consistent work for many hours daily and for many years. Due to the hard work for many years, we could accomplish the space research; the telephone, radio, television and such other facilities are the result of the efforts of the scientists and engineers. Had they not worked with aim and consistency, we would now be living without facilities like electricity, motor vehicle, train, airplane, and telephone, as we did about 200-300 years ago.

Therefore, we all should involve in good activities with the thinking that hard work will elevate us.

திருக்குறளும் ஆங்கிலப் பொன்மொழிகளும்

1) The secret of success is constancy to purpose. (Benjamin Disreli)
     திருக்குறள் 611:
     அருமை உடைத்துஎன்று அசாவாமை வேண்டும்
     பெருமை முயற்சி தரும் .
